Students will attend a 30 minute informational session given by school counselors and the career development coordinator March 8th -12th. During these sessions, students will receive registration materials and instructions to guide them in making good choices. The registration guide will be given out at this meeting. Questions regarding registration may be asked at this time. There will be a 30 minute session for interested parents at 12:00 noon on March 12th and another at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. Students registering for next year's courses will be scheduled with an administrator, school counselor, or career development staff member in a fifteen minute meeting. Parents are invited to attend this registration meeting. Appointment times will be mailed home and will also be given out in homeroom.

Parents that cannot attend this meeting may call and schedule an appointment during parent conferences on March 25th between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. If a student has already registered a parent may review what their child has requested and make changes if necessary. It is strongly encouraged to attend the appointment during the school day, as times on the 25th are limited. Appointments on the 25th will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

When students arrive for their registration appointment, they should have the following items:

  • Registration Guide
  • Requested classes written down on the registration form (located in back of book)
  • Career Development Plan which lists all courses previously taken (given out in homeroom).

Please remember that every attempt to fill course requests will be made. However, due to class size, it may be necessary to use alternates.

STUDENTS WILL ONLY RECEIVE ONE REGISTRATION BOOK DUE TO THE COST OF MATERIALS. LOST MATERIALS CANNOT BE REPLACED.

Classes chosen at this time should be considered FINAL. Schedule of classes for the 2010-2011 school year will be based on course requests. It will be extremely difficult to change a class after this registration meeting.

Register students individually.  Faculty registering students will be Joel Hoyle, Sherri Sharpe, Kevin Queen, Frankie Hale, Karla Francis, Lori Roberts, Shirley Searight, Penny Clontz, and Jeremy Shields.

Are you interested in learning more about the healthcare field? Cleveland Regional Medical Center is holding a one week "Code Teen" program this summer that will give you a better insight into the healthcare career paths. The program is open to any high school student but you must apply to join. Deadline to apply is March 31st. See Mrs. Clontz for an application.

Friendship Masonic Lodge-scholarship available to student who has been accepted to college.  GPA, leadership, and community involvement are considered.  Applications due to the guidance office May 22.

Number 3 Ruritan--$600 awarded to Crest High student planning to attend college.  Need, academics, and activities are considered in selection.  Applications due to the guidance office May 8.

Cleveland County Association of Teacher Assistants--$100 to student who is child of a CCATA and NCATA member.  Must be planning to attend a state-accredited institution.  Short essay and recommendation is required.  Application due to the guidance office May 22.

Boiling Springs Lions Club--$300 to student planning to attend college who lives in the Boiling Springs area.  Need, grades, and activities are considered.  Application due to the guidance office May 8.

Evelyn Cumberlander Memorial Scholarship--Award available to student planning to attend college.  Grades, character, citizenship, and need will be considered.  Preference will be given to student pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: science, history, music, or teaching.  Application due to the guidance office May 8.

Heather Waters Memorial
--Award available to student planning to attend college.  Special consideration is given to applicants who are interested in music (particularly band), and/or wanting to become a teacher.  Application due to the guidance office May 8.

Jeffrey Cooper Memorial
--Award available to student planning to attend college who has studied a foreign language (French students given greater consideration)--and will continue language in college.    Application due to the guidance office May 8.

Machon Hamrick Memorial-Award available to band student planning to attend accredited institution.  Must have at least a "C" average, have financial need, and be active in church.  Application due to the guidance office May 8.

The following scholarships are now available:

Asha Degree Scholarship--Award available to student planning to pursue full-time, undergraduate degree.  Student should have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Completed applications are due to guidance by April 24.

Realtor Scholarship--Award available to student planning to attend college.  Student should have at least a 2.8 GPA and have financial need.  Community service or work experience are considered.  Essay required.  Completed applications are due to guidance April 24.

IMPORTANT!!  Students, please remember that when you pick up an application from me it is VERY important to write your name in the green scholarship notebook.  This is of utmost importance for scholarships that use the general application.  I will look at the names in the notebook to know whose application to send to local donors.  If your name is not in the book for a specific scholarship I will not know that you want to be considered.

Students planning to attend community college could possibly be eligible for the State Employees Credit Union "People Helping People" scholarship.  The SECU foundation provides each NC community college two $5000 scholarships.  Recipients are selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee at the community college.  To be considered for this and any scholarship at Cleveland Community College, students should complete CCC's scholarship application.  These are available in the guidance office and are due to CCC by April 1.  

Students planning to attend another community college should contact the college's financial aid office to inquire about this scholarship.

Lutz Foundation-awarded to 2 Crest High students.  One award will be $2000 ($500 per year) and one award will be a one time payment of $500.  Community service and concern for others are important factors.  Academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and need are also considered.  Crest High will nominate 5 students who will be interviewed by a community committee to determine winners.  If a recipient is awarded other scholarships with a total value to or greater than the Lutz Foundation scholarship, the Lutz scholarship will be forfeited to the next alternate.  The $500 scholarship will be awarded regardless of other scholarships received. Scholarship recipients will be honored at a luncheon provided by the Lutz Foundation on Thursday, May 28.  Completed applications are due to the guidance office Friday, April 3.

 

SESPTC (Pupil Transportation Scholarship)--$1000 available to 2 students in the state of NC whose parent/guardian has been an active employee in public school transportation.  Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to attend college in the fall.  Leadership and citizenship are considered.  Essay is required.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Completed applications are due to guidance April 24
