Academic Booster Club - Mission to recognize and celebrate the outstanding academic/attendance accomplishments of freshmen. After each reporting period, qualifying students will receive a small recognition of their academic and attendance efforts. We are still taking donations of $3.00 to support our mission. Make checks payable to Crest High School c/o Freshman Academy. Mentor Program – Academy teachers have identified students who would benefit from a one-on-one positive role model. This program has been a huge successful. Crest staff members have stepped up to the plate and made positive connections with their mentees. Big Brother/ Big Sister - Based on teacher recommendation, former academy students (current 10th) were selected to serve as role models and teacher assistants during our monthly Advisor/Advisee meetings (long homeroom). Thanks to committee led by Mrs. Medicus. Freshman Forums – Male and Female 9th graders met in the theater on separate days. Upperclassmen (11th and 12th) served on a panel and responded to questions relevant to the social, emotional, and academic issues that 9th graders face. The collaboration was a success as freshman and the forum panel requested to do it again! Attendance Reward – Mrs. Scism and her committee established qualifications to recognize students with perfect attendance. Three tardies are also a factor in determining participation. Students are given free time and small treats. It has certainly sparked other students motivation to try to get to school. Data - Reports concerning pass/fail, attendance, and behavior have been compiled for discussion with academy teachers and guidance. Proactive measures are being taken to help students become successful. Such measures include student conferences, phone call to parents, SSMT referrals, and the recognition efforts mentioned above. |
